Like Marlene Dietrich and Coco Chanel

We have changed: Paz, who is blonde, will play Coco Chanel and I, brunette, Marlene Dietrich, the one with a Little black dressand a cloche and the other with tuxedo and top hat. Two looks that once caused a real stir and are now a classic. That is how Albiñana and The old Iriarte We wanted to congratulate you on the holidays and thank you for your trust, with a luxury post for our blog about Dresses and Hats. Two formal outfits full of history and presented in a dream place that could not be less, the Campoamor theater of Oviedo.

In 1930, Marlene Dietrich scandalized society by appearing in the film Morocco dressed in a tuxedo and top hat. In this way, in the film, he goes on stage, kisses a woman and throws a flower at Gary Cooper, who picks it up, with a feminine gesture, and places it behind his ear. That was the first time a woman wore this outfit, designed by Edward VII's tailors, in the 19th century, so that the then Prince of Wales would feel comfortable and look elegant at the same time during his private dinners. Hence the jacket of this suit is known as “Dinner Jacket” and not a tuxedo, as we call it, erroneously, in Spain. Our word is a transformation of the English “smoking jacket”, which were the jackets that English gentlemen used to smoke and thus prevent their suits from smelling of tobacco.

Although the first to wear the tuxedo was our mysterious and provocative German actress, it was the French designer Ives Saint Laurent who popularized it in a feminine version by including it in his collection in 1966.

Our tuxedo is also from a French brand, Lauren Vidal, and it has a gold band on the sleeves and elastic cuffs, one of this winter's trends, which give it an urban and very current touch. We have accompanied it with a top hat, whose history is even more peculiar.

Legend has it that John Hetherington He was arrested for disorderly conduct when he first walked through the streets of London with a top hat on his head, the type of hat he had just devised, according to him, to scare shy people. The scandal that it caused in its wake was such that, according to the chronicles of the time, even the domestic animals were startled and more than one woman fainted. The year was 1797 and our hatter had to pay a fine of 500 pounds to get out of prison. What Hetherington did not imagine was that his headdress was going to reach the top, and not because of the dimensions of its kilometric crown, which also, but because some time later high society would make it theirs and turn it into the icon of distinction and the label.

The top hat, called top hat in Spain or galera in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile and Uruguay, is a type of tall hat, with a flat top and wide brim that became popular in Europe in 1820. The first models were made of felt. until Prince Albert of England wore it in silk. The capacity of the headdress is such that friendly rabbits or doves can appear from the inside of its cup, as if by magic. Nowadays, in addition to illusion tricks, it is used with gala costumes and at high-profile social events, such as the Ascot races.

To give a very feminine touch to our Marlene Dietrich look, we have worn some black suede stilettos from Rebeca Sanver.

When talking about provocation, transgression and scandal in the world of fashion, there is a woman who made the difference: Coco Chanel. Today we show you one of its icons, the little black dress or little black dress. Until 1926, black, for women, was the color of mourning or of the maids' uniforms, since this tone hid dirt better and was easier to wash than the light tones, with which most of them were dressed. of the ladies. But that year, Coco appeared at the theater dressed in a simple black dress that fell just below her knees. What can I say that it did not go unnoticed at all, among so many lace, ruffles, hats and pastel colors, and that her dress not only became a trend but also freed women from corsets and ties and gave them that look that is so useful for you. going to work or going out to dinner, depending on the accessories that accompany it. Our Little black dress is knitted, very tight, with a crew neck and a large ruffle from the hips. He signs it Bato Dungarees and we have complemented it with a studded ankle boot with a thin heel from Janet & Janet, to always give our proposals the most current touch.

We closed our Coco Chanel look with a wonderful black velvet cloche. Another hat that empowered women that we already told you about in our last post, Dressed to Write.

Two fantastic outfits for your Christmas dinners or to welcome your family home.
