Juan Ur\u00eda and his wife, Cristina Gervilla, have opened the doors of the Cardenal Cienfuegos Palace, in Ag\u00fcerina (Belmonte de Miranda), to present our autumn collections. A noble construction from the mid-17th century, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, which they inherited from their family and which they now rent to preserve it.<\/p>

When we are changing the windows and we have the store disorganized and chaotic, people come in delighted for I don't know why a mystery of nature. And if two enter, three enter and four enter, because people call people. The same thing happens when you are in a very clean city or in an immaculate house. Don't even think about throwing a piece of paper on the floor. Cleanliness calls for cleanliness. Well, after @albarueda, a good friend from my days as a journalist, offered us her farm in Le\u00f3n and all her animals (horses, sheep, dogs and even an eagle) to do a photo shoot of El Antiguo Iriarte , another lifelong friend from the neighborhood and a very good client, Cristina Gervilla, offered us the palace that the family of her husband, Juan Ur\u00eda, has inherited from her father and that they now rent by the day to reinvest the lodging money in their maintenance.<\/p>

I was cleaning the windows of the shop windows, back at the end of August, when Cris appeared on Magdalena Street and made the suggestion to me. To my astonishment and enthusiasm, he asked me:<\/p>

-Did you not know that Juan's family had the Palace of Cardinal Cienfuegos?<\/p>

-I had no idea. I knew that @palaciocardenalcienfuegos followed us on Instagram but I didn't know who was behind it, I answered honestly.<\/p>

What a pie I drag! Very typical of me. The fact is that I happily agreed. How could I reject such an offer? And more so with the operational problems that we sometimes have. Changing in the street, in the car or in a alley (which is where we change when we go out to the countryside or the beach to take photos) is not the most comfortable thing in the world. And that they put a palace at your feet and that on top of that they offer it to you (and I don't have to go around asking for permissions and an audience, which is what I do so many other times), what do you want me to tell you? Almost like kissing Cris.<\/p>

Later, telling Mom and Vane, who were on vacation in Vidiago, I was excited and everything. May Cris and Juan (like Alba and \u00c1lvaro or Mar\u00eda, another good friend who opened her farm to us years ago, or Laina, from another palace, in this case Meres) think about our store, our photos, our work and, ultimately, in us to let ourselves wander around such a wonderful setting, to show that trust, empathy and affection, it seems to me such a beautiful gesture, so generous and so human that I can't help but be moved and feel very very happy. I dedicate many hours to writing, publishing on social networks, taking photos, answering your comments and fighting for the store that, just like the historian Juan Ur\u00eda Maqua did with his children, leaving them the Palace of Cardinal Cienfuegos, has been the inheritance that my father, Juan Manuel Sol\u00eds Santiago, has left us. For this reason, I agreed with Cris to postpone the session until September, when more collections would arrive, happy as a partridge.<\/p>

Lleg\u00f3 el momento. El pasado domingo, cargamos el coche con un saco de Lauren Vidal y dos bolsas de bolsos y billeteros de BIBA, y all\u00e1 que nos fu\u00edmos mam\u00e1, Vane, Charlie (su marido), Frida (su scottish terrier), Pablo (mi chico) y Alberto (un amigo de Pablo que hab\u00eda venido a casa a pasar el fin de semana). \u00abPuede venir quien quiera, no hay problema de espacio\u00bb, nos hab\u00eda dicho Cris.<\/p>

The day couldn't be more spectacular. A radiant sun and perhaps too hot, but the walls of the palace were going to give us the necessary cool to pose with wools and coats. The road, towards Grado and then Pola de Somiedo, already predicted a perfect day. The landscape was taking us, increasingly beautiful, towards the noble house where Cardinal \u00c1lvaro Cienfuegos was born, who twice had vows to Pope, on February 27, 1657.<\/p>

A las 11:30 ya est\u00e1bamos frente a la construcci\u00f3n nobiliaria. Est\u00e1 situada en el pueblo de Ag\u00fcerina, pasado Belmonte de Miranda y en direcci\u00f3n a Pola de Somiedo. Te la encuentras en la misma carretera, donde se asoma la cara norte del Palacio, que consta de la fachada, la puerta con un picaporte en forma de mano femenina (\u00bb la casa tuvo propietarias mujeres, de ah\u00ed este detalle\u00bb, matiza Juan) sobre la que luce el escudo de armas de la familia Cienfuegos y la peque\u00f1a capilla, que tiene incluso coro, y alberga dos tumbas, la de Salvador Puj\u00f3, un franc\u00e9s que se cas\u00f3 con la due\u00f1a de la casa y tan enamorado vivi\u00f3 del lugar que all\u00ed quiso ser enterrado, y la de la madre de \u00e9ste.<\/p>

Juan, who has five other brothers, is in charge of guarding the palace and taking care of two other rural houses that the family has a little further up: @elmolinodevaldelagua and La Fabriquina. He is a calmly spoken but passionate man. Each of his words denotes an unconditional love for the place. Impossible to reproduce everything he told us, too much information, but I know I would spend hours listening to it. For him, this noble construction is not the Cardinal's Palace, it is Ag\u00fcerina's house, where he spent every summer with his brothers since his childhood and where his own children and nephews enjoy to the fullest. It is a place of memories, of happy times, of bathing in the Pig\u00fce\u00f1a River, a tributary of the Narcea that runs through the estate of the mansion, on the south side, of paellas in the garden and of sunsets in the Poniente gallery. A place that his father, who died ten years ago, adored and that he had already hinted at, without knowing that his children would do so in the future, that the Palace would be an ideal place for rural tourism, to make this heritage known. and its history and to maintain a building that requires a lot of care.<\/p>

Frente a la entrada, nos llamaron a todos la atenci\u00f3n las hortensias m\u00e1s grandes que jam\u00e1s hubi\u00e9ramos visto. \u00abSon enormes, \u00bfverdad? Ya estaban aqu\u00ed y eran as\u00ed de grandes cuando mi padre hered\u00f3. Las hortensias piden norte, ser\u00e1 por eso. Esto es norte, norte\u00bb, nos explic\u00f3 Juan.<\/p>

Pasamos al interior del edificio. En el zagu\u00e1n, maravilloso, reposan dos grandes arcones y del recibidor parten, hacia la derecha, unas imponentes escaleras que conducen al corredor. Juan nos llev\u00f3 de frente, hacia el patio central. \u00abAlrededor de este patio hay varias estancias que conservan el nombre del cometido que ten\u00edan en la \u00e9poca: granero, bodega, caballerizas y gabinete\u00bb. Las tienen cerradas al turismo, a excepci\u00f3n de una sala en la que han puesto una mesa de ping pong y algunos juegos para que sus hijos y sus sobrinos se diviertan los fines de semana. Porque si algo tiene el Palacio del Cardenal Cienfuegos es vida, una casa para disfrutar y habitar. Al final del patio, una puerta de doble hoja sale hacia la finca trasera de la casa, orientada al sur y en cuya fachada trepa una parra centenaria. \u00abNo parece, viendo el palacio desde la carretera, que vaya a haber todo este terreno detr\u00e1s, \u00bfverdad?\u00bb, piensa Juan en alto. Es incre\u00edble c\u00f3mo disfruta y con el orgullo que habla de este palacio.<\/p>

Tras explicarnos que tuvieron que poner una malla en lo alto del patio para evitar que las golondrinas arruinaran la madera de la barandilla del corredor y la piedra, accedimos al piso de arriba por unas escaleras maravillosas. Desde un corredor luminoso y acogedor, continuamos hacia el sal\u00f3n de la casa, orientado al sur, y con vistas a la finca y al r\u00edo. Preside la estancia el retrato del cardenal, un hombre de tez morena y semblante serio. Frente a este, otro cuadro con el retrato de un familiar de \u00c1lvaro Cienfuegos, quien fuera Abad de Teverga. Suelo de casta\u00f1o, bancos de nogal y cerezo, grandes arcones, muebles de caoba y c\u00f3modas con retratos de la familia de Juan. El sal\u00f3n es luminoso y acogedor, pese al tama\u00f1o. Otro cuadro reproduce el \u00e1rbol geneal\u00f3gico de la familia. Reza un Sol\u00eds. \u00ab\u00a1Meca! \u00a1Como nosotras! Igual somos familia, Juan!\u00bb, grita mi hermana entusiasmada. \u00ab\u00bfQui\u00e9n sabe?\u00bb, dice nuestro anfitri\u00f3n. \u00abNo creo, nuestro Sol\u00eds viene de la zona de Carre\u00f1o\u00bb, digo. Juan nos cuenta que igual hay 30 generaciones entre el cardenal y ellos. \u00abMuchos a\u00f1os\u00bb, r\u00ede.<\/p>

Proseguimos la visita por los laterales del sal\u00f3n. A ambos lados, dos dormitorios. A cada cual m\u00e1s bonito. Uno de ellos, tiene chimenea. Ambos, palanganas y orinal. \u00abEs que la zona de ba\u00f1os queda al otro lado del corredor. Un poco lejos para acudir en mitad de la noche\u00bb, r\u00ede Juan. La casa es como un laberinto, todas las estancias se comunican. Yo enseguida me sit\u00fao, tengo facilidad para orientarme, pero Vane y mam\u00e1 empiezan a liarse. El dormitorio de la izquierda del sal\u00f3n se asoma la galer\u00eda de Naciente, un lugar m\u00e1gico decorado con sillones de mimbre y un peque\u00f1o escritorio a un extremo. Juan nos vuelve a llevar al corredor para acceder a la cocina y a la zona de ba\u00f1os. \u00abYa ver\u00e1s, la cocina te va a encantar\u00bb, me adelanta. Tiene toda la raz\u00f3n. Me cuesta cerrar la boca al entrar. Un estancia enorme, con arcones, chimenea central, una encimera interminable y dos mesas, una alargada muy grande, y otra m\u00e1s peque\u00f1a en un rinc\u00f3n. Los utensilios guardados en alacenas de obra cerradas con cortinas, algunas ollas de cobre colgadas en ganchos y jarras, especieros, platillos y tazas colocados por doquier. Un para\u00edso. El suelo, las paredes, los detalles… Me vuelvo loca y Juan, feliz. Adora esta casa, me explica Cris, y lleva mal cuando la gente no se entusiasma ni valora lo que est\u00e1 viendo. Lo entiendo, le digo a mi amiga. Yo que tiendo al entusiasmo y a la ilusi\u00f3n y que creo que la belleza y la sensibilidad son vitales para respirar, me imagino la decepci\u00f3n cuando le ense\u00f1as a alguien esta maravilla y se muestra impasible. Pero ese d\u00eda no fue el caso. Est\u00e1bamos todos entusiasmados. En la zona de ba\u00f1os, donde hay tres aseos seguidos (aqu\u00ed todo es a lo grande), Juan nos llama la atenci\u00f3n sobre el suelo de baldosas hidr\u00e1ulicas. \u00abEstas son las aut\u00e9nticas, no las que hay ahora. Nos dijo un entendido que son as\u00ed de gruesas\u00bb, indica abriendo el \u00edndice y el pulgar, \u00aby que si las lijas, el dibujo sigue intacto hasta el final\u00bb.<\/p>

Junto a la cocina, m\u00e1s dormitorios, todos comunicados entre ellos. \u00abEsto est\u00e1 muy bien para venir con ni\u00f1os. Aqu\u00ed duermen todos juntos\u00bb, apunta Cris. Salimos de nuevo al corredor, a trav\u00e9s de un peque\u00f1o hall que alberga un piano, y accedemos, a trav\u00e9s de una puerta que hay justo al terminar la escalera, a otra zona de habitaciones, dos para ser exactos. Todas tienen camas enormes y en una el armario es tan alto que las perchas tienen alargador para llegar a la barra donde se cuelga la ropa. Estas dos habitaciones m\u00e1s las tres que part\u00edan de la cocina van a dar a otra galer\u00eda, la de Poniente, en el extremo oeste de la casa, que tiene unas escaleras que comunican con el jard\u00edn. M\u00e1s lugares m\u00e1gicos y maravillosos que nos arrancan exclamaciones y halagos. Si la galer\u00eda de Naciente me invitaba a la escritura y a una taza humeante de caf\u00e9 mientras aguardaba la salida del sol, en \u00e9sta me imaginaba leyendo, a \u00faltima hora de la tarde, esperando el ocaso. C\u00f3mo juega la luz con las estancias de una casa siempre me ha maravillado y creo que alquilar\u00eda este Palacio solo para ser testigo de ese juego. Correr de una estancia a otra, por suelos centenarios, siendo testigo del nacimiento y la muerte de un d\u00eda.<\/p>

En el jard\u00edn, la familia de Juan ha acondicionado una gran parrilla y ha colocado una mesa enorme, de familia numerosa, en un alto y bajo techo, para celebrar esas comidas donde primos, hermanos, t\u00edos, padres y esposos celebran la vida. \u00abEs como un txoko\u00bb, dice Juan en honor a los dos vascos presentes en la visita, Pablo y Alberto.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Terminamos la excursi\u00f3n en el r\u00edo. \u00abAqu\u00ed, que como veis est\u00e1 m\u00e1s fresco, tomamos el aperitivo y nos damos un ba\u00f1o. Despu\u00e9s, ya nos vamos al jard\u00edn por la tarde, que es cuando all\u00ed da el sol\u00bb, dice Cris.<\/p>

Hace un calor tremendo. Los chicos se ponen el ba\u00f1ador y se van directos al r\u00edo. Mam\u00e1, Vane y yo nos acomodamos en una de las habitaciones y empezamos el desfile. Recorremos la casa de una punta a otra. Mam\u00e1 y Vane se pierden de vez en cuando. \u00ab\u00a1Sandra! \u00bfD\u00f3nde est\u00e1s? Escucho de tanto en tanto (yo ando como loca haciendo fotos, captando detalles). \u00ab\u00a1Aqu\u00ed! \u00a1En la cocina! \u00a1Salir al corredor y a la izquierda!\u00bb, les indico a gritos. Juan y Cris nos dejan campar sin presiones y se acomodan bajo un \u00e1rbol, en el r\u00edo, y sacan sidra de casa. El d\u00eda no pudo ser m\u00e1s bonito y nosotros no imaginamos mejores anfitriones. El Palacio del Cardenal Cienfuegos se alquila por d\u00edas (un m\u00ednimo de cinco) y cuenta con espacio para 16 personas. Todo el dinero que se saca con su explotaci\u00f3n como turismo rural se reinvierte en su conservaci\u00f3n. Esta es la manera de preservar el patrimonio y los recuerdos. Si os apetece hospedaros en un lugar tan m\u00e1gico, poneros en contacto con Juan. Os aseguro que ser\u00e1 una experiencia inolvidable. \u00abEres un hombre afortunado.
